Default New Hillclimb

There's a 24"x96" area in the garage that's just collecting garbage, so I'm going to build a Hillclimb Rally track to give the guys something to do while waiting to race.

Got the space cleaned out...

...and the base built. It will start about 4" off the floor...

The Hillclimb will stack vertically...this will be the first tier and as long as it doesn't rain tomorrow, I'll get it routed (I do my routing outside). Then I'll mount it to the base, paint it, tape it and do some scenery. Then I'll add the next tier.

I have no idea what the next tier will look like yet, but I will try to keep decent sight lines. Also, I don't know how many tiers there will be, but it will rise to about eye level, with a reversing loop at the top.
It will be a single lane run against the clock, starting and ending where Brandi's head is. Dan at TrackMate is designing a timing system for this track. It will have 4 sectors plus a total time, should make for some interesting competition. TrackMate is also designing the reversing switch at the top.
Scenery will be a challenge, because the whole thing will only have a 2ft x 8ft footprint, and I'm hoping for at least a 20 second run.
More pictures when there's some progress

Creative as ever. I remember you cramming a three lane track into a 2' x 8' area so this single lane should be doable but with many more twisties. I expect no less than to be running on it when I'm in town, next week!

Can't wait to see more! If you are interested I can send you the reversing loop wiring that I built and is dead easy (I know because I am all thumbs with electricity.)

Ok, so, given the amount of time that Luf has completed other larger projects, this one was posted yesterday(thursday), I would imagine that test driving will be done by saturday and scenery complete on sunday. Looking forward to the completed track pics on Sunday night/Monday morning!

No kidding. I might make it up to the Pacific NW this year Luf. I'd love to get a run on it!

Got the first tier routed (between rain showers) this morning. Slot length for this 2'x8' section is 18'-6"...

Great work Luf. Quick question. How much space are you leaving between the inside and the outside of the slot at the corners?

The roadway is a minimum 6", so inside is 1.5"-2" and outside 4"-4.5". It's meant for smaller Rally cars...I don't want to see Slot-It or NSR rockets on this track. It's bad enough seeing Nascars on our Targa track (even if they do make for good races)
