Default NINCO Nationals @ Slingshot Speedway - Results and Pictures

Hi All,

First and foremost, thanks to Duane and Lance of Slingshot Speedway for still going on with the race. It was a great weekend of slots with great people, as usual. Big thanks to our two travelers for this past weekend, Rich Drejcek & Rob Fleischman - great guys! Thanks for giving us your support, and you guys have ours when the time comes.

Saturday was filled with two heats of XLOT races, the XLOT Final, and two heats of 1/32 Sport races. Sunday consisted of the 1/32 Final along with a Slot.it Challenge race and SCX Pro-Car IROC Race. It was a fun filled Sunday of racing, both intense and relaxed.

Each XLOT and 1/32 Qualifying heat required drivers complete 10minutes each lane for a total of 1hr of track time. The final for both was 15minutes each lane, which is 1.5hrs of run time coming to a grand total of 2.5hrs of run time for the top 6 finalists for each car. This was the first time we ran XLOT's in a short endurance race. We were worried the motors would not take the constant load of the car, and unfortunately, one car suffered an intermittent motor problem that would cause the comm to lock up occasionally. The NC6's in the 1/32 cars were reliable as usual, and we'd like to thank Lance for taking the time to test each motor to make sure we received close motors for handout.

Enough with the jibbajabba, here are the results:

In the Xlot final Mark beat Jon by about 20' after 90 minutes of racing.

It is interesting to note how similar the lap totals are for both finals. The voltage was bumped up for the Xlot but I don't know what it was. Either 14.5 or 15 I think. Whatever it was the right choice was made now that we have the larger race data. This assumes that you'd want similar performance from a lap time standpoint.

Just a quick thanks to Lance, Duane, and the whole Sling Shot family for putting on a great event this weekend despite the problems that developed over the past week. I know that everyone that participated had a great time, whether it was racing, marshaling, or socializing. As always, the racing was clean, fair, competitive, and most of all fun. For those that chose not to attend for whatever reasons, you truly missed a first-class event. I hope that for next year, the problems that caused the "cancellation" of this year's race can be resolved by NINCO/Spain making some smarter choices with locale for the WC race, that our local sponsor can provide sponsorship akin to the past with an improving economy, and that we as racers understand that our sponsors need to see, up front, our willingness and commitment to participating in an event if they are going to invest their hard earned dollars. We all share a little of the blame for this years mishaps. As an out of towner, I for one do not have a problem with the event continuing at Sling Shot. I believe that wherever the event is held, the best drivers will rise to the top. That said, if we are to run this event at either a different track, or at a neutral location (the best alternative), we need to start planning well in advance. That means either a different track/shop needs to step up well in advance and provide a lay out that will be challenging enough to merit a National Championship, or Bob needs to let us know how we as racers can help to make a neutral site possible.

Again, thanks to everyone at Sling Shot for putting on a great event and weekend of racing.

Rob

Mark,

Thanks for posting the race report.

Does the chassis ever scrape the track when using the small wheel/tire combination on the front of the NINCO 1/32 slot cars?

Best regards,
Brian

I'll answer...

The answer is sometimes. Bit it is not an issue. On most cars small front wheels and tires will lower the car to the point of the car running as close to the track as possible (with weight on the front wheels) or the front of the car on the guide. The notable exception lately is the lmp acura. With small front wheels the front "apron" scrapes, but this does not hurt on Ninco track, it actually helps by not letting the car rock.

Any car can scrape the chassis on the front if the chassis is warped. This was the case with two of my Ford GT chassis until I flatened them.

Running on Ninco track it is usually critical to get the front of the car as close to the track as possible. Otherwise the car loses braking (because the weight is on the wheels and not on the guide) and the car when going through a turn can catch a front tire and "go straight" and deslot.

hope this helps

I would like to thank Lance and Dwayne for holding this event and making the most out of a tricky situation. Thanks for Rob and Rich for attending our event we enjoyed having you. Hopefully I can return the favor in the future and visit you. There were also some non-participants and "one race or the other" drivers that lended their hands in track marshaling. Alot of track marshaling. Thanks very much.

I actually want to thank Ninco for having the World Cup. And MRC for their effort in trying to participate. Unfortunately this year has not worked out very well. Hopefully next year will be better organized.

Currently Jason and I are not planning on attending the Ninco World Cup. This is due to many things, including short travel notice, location of the event, money, taking time off from work, little prep time to set up cars for NWC rules, not enough parts to set up cars, etc.

I really really want to go and represent the USA in the Ninco World Cup, but due many factors I regretfully will bow out.

Congrats to you guys back on the podium, and to everybody else for turning a rough situation into a good race. It sounds like a fun event, and I knew it would be with Lance and Dwayne running the show.

This has been a hard year for a lot of organizations, and if it weren't for MRC, there wouldn't even be an event of this type in the US. They've provided more support for our American teams than any national team has received, and have no obligation to do so. The fact that they do says a lot, and we're all looking forward to next year's qualifier.

Jon, your reasons make perfect sense to me, and in your position, I'd have to do the exact same thing.

From the outside looking in, thanks to everybody for going ahead with the event, and making it the best it could be.

Gotta adjust the scope a bit better, and account for the wind... *grin*

It felt weird being anywhere other than at that race, Rob. I really missed seeing everybody! If I could hang out with that group every day, I would.

Gentlemen,
I watched the live link for a number of hours yesterday, and I think everything that could be said about this year National has been said already.
I want thank Sling Shot again for "being there" in these trying times, and my congrats to Jason, John and Mark for their overall 1,2,3 podium finishes. (Also, thanks Mark for posting the results).
This wasn't a good year for Toyota in F-1 and they had to make a painful decision to bow out.
I will contact NINCO immediately to let them know that the USA will not be represented this year.
Jon and Jason; I applaud your reasoning for bowing out and can only echo Kurts sentiments.
To Alan and the guys who stated their willingness to kick in funds to augment MRC's donation, thank you for your generous offer.
Gentlemen, I will do whatever I can to make next years race series as smooth and as exciting and as anticipated as it has been in the previous three years... and wherever the "National" will be run in 2010, I look forward to personally handing out the trophies and congratulating a new Team USA.
