Thank Geno. I just checked a couple of local hobby shops and they have them in stock too.

Ok so I painted my car with Tamiya white acrylic and applied the decals. I have decided to paint on some coloured trim and the only paint I could find the colour I want in is Testors enamel.

1/ Will it be a problem for me to use enamel paint for a bit of detail over the white acrylic?

2/ Will it be a problem to then spray the satin Tamiya clear coat over the whole lot?

My advice would be to use TESTORS Wet Look Clear. It's a lacquer like the TS-26.It is a much milder clear than the TS-13 and won't harm the decals. It goes on a bit thicker than the Tamiya but still polishes out nicely.However-Do NOT apply it or the satin Tamiya over the Testors enamel!
You CAN use the enamel over the Tamiya white.

Thanks ZT. I can't afford more clear coat! I bought the Tamiya satin clear coat and I already had a can of Krylon and Testors Dull Coat.

Still curious what will happen if I spray the Tamiya acrylic clear coat over the Testors enamel?

If it is a no-no, can I use the Tamiya clear coat on the car now (decaled and painted with acrylic) then use the Testors enamel on top of that for my accent paint and leave it uncoated?

Default Spray at your own risk...

Using other paints on top of Tamiya has left me annoyed a few times. If you are using Tamiya, I would stay away from using other brands. It can take a long time to dry and I have often left fingerprints in it days later.

As previously mentioned in this thread, Do Not lay any laquer (Tamiya acrylic laquer included) on top of enamel......it will "melt" the enamel and likely run. Enamel over laquer is fine.

So.....coat your painted and decaled car with Tamiya and then add the detail bits (uncoated) with Testors enamel. The first 2/3 coats of Tamiya clear shoud be barely misted on, as Tamiya spray is very hot and can easily ruin decals (1/2 hour between mist coats). After the mist coats, you can proceed with the wet coats. You will get better results with light coats.... be patient, you can always add another coat.

Place the Tamiya spray in a sink with hot tap water for a minute or so before spraying......it will not blow up!.....this pressurises the can somewhat, the added pressure will help keep the paint particles small as they exit the nozzle.

If you wish to tone down the Tamiya Semi Gloss you can use some 6000 grade polishing cloths, or Tamiya coarse compound.

Cheers

Thanks all,

As Dr. Van suggested I lightly spray the decals before application and I have always done this. It makes them more durable when applying. Fortunately I have never experienced this 1st hand.

A friend suggested that I clear coat the car before I paint the enamel trim as it would be easier to correct any mistakes I make in trim painting. Then clear coat again.

What do you think?

See above post!!...................

You have had 2/3 members strongly suggest that coating enamel with laquer (Tamiya acrylic lacquer included) is not a good idea....in fact it is a really bad idea.....but if you insist...please go ahead.

The smart thing to do is detail with enamel after your clear coat......and leave it.

Cheers

I am convinced! Especially since the trim will not be in a high exposure area.
