Thanks for the update and the heads-up on buying the Arduino. I was getting the itch to buy one.
Very glad to see your progress.

Completed the event last night.

The Lap Counter worked great... just wish I could say the same for the WOS base unit.

About 2 hours into the event a few cars kept going to full speed on their own mid way through a race, even during active race mode on the base unit. It is almost always controller 1 and 6... so I just went with the other 4 cars for the last half of the event.

The unit also randomly freezes and resets its self when cars get stuck on switches, usually takes 2 cars on the same or different switches, it must create a short and forces it to power cycle.

Pushing all 12 buttons at the same time is still required, and still annoying as it gets. Luckily it only needs to be done ONCE with the lap counter, and only needs to be done again if the system or a remote times-out and powers down.

EDIT:

I suspect that some of these issues, have to do with kids.. it is always a young kid that has the remote when it happens, either they are pushing other cars heating up the chip motor, or pressing buttons in some kid like manner.

All of these problems will be solved when he finishes decoding and working on the Lap Counter.

Pressing the buttons to start a race will not be needed, unless you want to use the WOS fuel function.
Car speed will be controlled by the Lap Counter, so it will not matter if the remotes get turned off and back on, or jump to full speed.
As the lap counter will intercept the 100% speed signal and change it to the max setting before it gets sent to chip.

I don´t think so.
I had a reace event in January where I tried to do a race with 6 different coloured SLS with WOS decoders to promote the WOS system to my slot collegues.

Always after some dozen laps all cars stopped and the cu did a reset like an electrical short. I took all cars immediately off the track, switched the cu off, cut power and after 30 sec or so started again

I tried several times and during the fifth race I was not in the room. When I came back all cars were not running. Tried the same but found out that I can bind the controllers to the cu but there was no binding of the cars possible anymore. Changed cu and everything was fine.

That was the end of the racing career of SCX WOS with our slot group.

Does anyone need a WOS cu and/or WOS remote and decoder???

mail me

I'm glad I went back to the old system. I race nascars only and I love it. Only had a few problems with scx digital in the years I've used it. I don't mind wired controllers; it works for me. I still have my wos system, and who knows maybe one day if I see others can get it to work right I'll try it.

The software can be downloaded now, it is just using PC Lap Counter
Which is $60 to go beyond 10 laps.

As far as the hardware...

He cannot solve that checksum issue, so what can be done will be limited.

He can only limit the speed to 2 green bars, or less, or it returns goofy data.
Which is good for kid mode I guess.

He is currently using the device that is small enough to put inside the base unit.

I will be busy, trying to get this to work, until after the event that will be using it on the 21st, then I will go back to slotcars.

I do not know yet.. when it is done, we will release a how too.
No point in doing so now, since it would not work even if you had the parts... and then what if the parts needed to be changed to something else by the time he finishes? He has already started over a dozen or so times each time he learns something new with the system data.

He is VERY busy doing other things as well... like running his business.
He is doing this open source and not charging anyone anything...
.. maybe he could spend more time on it, if donations where made or something...

.. I have intentionally not mentioned WHO is doing this, because everyone would be e-mailing him asking when it will be done.. and he would have to spend time reading/answering those emails or calls, instead of working on it
It is not the PC Lap Counter guy, so do not bug him
