This will be updated as new results are available.
Racing format is: Each segment is 20 laps... the time that each competitor takes to run 20 laps on each lane is recorded, the sum of each segment is the total time for 60 laps. The lowest time is the heat winner, etc.
Can you please explain what those numbers mean? I see Kurt Moser up there with a (S) rating of 5.1254, and Ken S with a 25.xxx, those couldn't be lap times . . . I'm not familiar with the timing program there.
It has been a exciting day and I have a long drive back to Chicago tomorrow so please forgive me if photos need captioning and such.
Complete lap totals for the semis will be available as a PDF in this thread hopefully early in the week.
A heartfelt thank you to Model Rectifier Company and Ninco for their sponsorship of this exciting event. Special thanks to JD Figoli for hosting the first ever Ninco USA Nats and also his crew of VERY GOOD turn marshalls and race director Mike!
Man, MG you're always on top of it with these pictures! They look great and it was definately a fun, memorable experience. It was a pleasure to meet so many great competitors that came from all over the US, oh yea, and that Canadian guy with the socks
Great pics!
Thanks for posting all those wonderful shots, a great time was had by all.
For all those that didn't participate in the event, you missed a great one and by all means try to come next year.
Thanks also goes out to Ninco Bob and JD for hosting such a great event.
One I'll remember for a long time.
Congrats to the winners, and congrats to first place Kurt Moser El Secundo. Not only can he drive unweighted, box stock Nincomobiles, on a track so big you can't really see it, but he drove my problematic Bentley LMP to Numero Uno during his leg of the Race Across America '06. Yes, the boy can drive! Thanks, Kurt, and good luck in Verona!
Excellent job!!! Thanks for lunch and I really did enjoy Chicagoland. I owe you one, but next time I get to beat Alan. I wish I could have been in Atlanta with you guys. Ninco Bob has got the ball rolling. How about the 24hrs of Daytona. If you can get Father Bob to come run a race down here that would be great.

Congrats to everyone who was there!! Instead of teching Kurts car, we should tech him. I think he is an Android! The man is a driving machine. Can't wait to do it again. I was looking at the pictures I took and have found the secret to Kurts winning ways.. I little help from Kerry:
Cheers,
Roberto

What a great event. Thanks should definitely go to NINCO, Bob, and JD's. It was exciting to watch and had a great atmosphere. My son and I stopped by for a few hours and watched both Kurt and George drive their second heats. They each put on clinics! George only had two offs in twenty laps and lapped 3 or 4 cars. I think Kurt only had 1 or 2 offs and he lapped 4, maybe 5 cars. I thought he was going to actually lap himself.
Congrats to everyone who was there!! Instead of teching Kurts car, we should tech him. I think he is an Android! The man is a driving machine.
I second this, Kurt should adopt a new handle, Kurt "The Machine" Moser!! Very fast, very consistent, always hitting his braking points, very few offs, he set fast time overall for 60 laps and fast time for a 20 lap segment of under 12 minutes; 11m4Xs something. There were a few other cars slightly faster in spots, short spurts, but Kurt was relentless.
Congrats too, to George "SouthernSloter" Bagley who finished second and plans on taking his son, Jake, to Italy as well, with a Ferrari factory tour on the agenda. Both George and Jim "Zoom Beedo" Basel are local racers and members of SSR/Lake Lanier racing group. Jim finished 5th, I believe. Kurt was George's house guest for the weekend, there must have been something in the water!!!
What was also amazing was Mark Andrazza [forgive the spelling Mark] who actually led the first few laps of the final, set fast lap of the day with a 33.57, and backed it up with a second identical lap time, finished 4th, and has BEEN RACING SLOT CARS FOR LESS THAN TWO MONTHS!!!! Talk about natural talent!!
[Multi-magnet/hot motor cars run this track in 18/19 seconds]
Thanks to NINCO/MRC, JD, his staff and marshalls, Ninco Bob, all the out-of-town racers and locals who made the event. It was truly a historic race.
Good to meet the guys from Seattle/Canada, Houston, Chicago.
What was also amazing was the consistency of the NINCO hand-out NC6 motors, nobody got a dog, nobody got a hot motor, no complaints, very uniform output. The Shore tires worked very well also, loosing grip gradually as the day progressed, no problems. To NINCO products generally, and to the racers, no mechanical problems by anyone, no DNFs, no pit stops for repairs. indeed the cars were impounded from initial "tech and turn in", to the end of racing.
Oh yeah, I was there too, not a racer, merely an entrant, never a threat to anyone, I finished about 21st out of 28 total entries. Car was good, I wasn't.
But I did turn faster laps iin the race than I had in practice, by a good 3-4 seconds per lap, and I solved my electrical problems, [lead wire pull outs], from Saturday's practice sessions.
But I'm old, and slow, lacking hand/eye coordination, no reactions, poor depth perception, the sun was in my eyes, I ate a "bad" burrito, I got a blister on my finger, my feet hurt from standing, Kurt used my best wheels, etc.
Wait til next year....I just KNOW I will be faster then!

Thanks Jay. I thought I wasn't going to be in this long, but after this race and meeting people from all over the country that are so into this, you guys got me sold!
It was truely a pleasure racing with folks with such intensity and talent. The final race was intense and no one was willing to let go! Definately the best slot race I've ever had and it'll always be remembered. Hopefully there are many races to come.
And I agree that the motors were pretty consistent within each other which provided a good competition.
Congratulations to Kurt "The Machine" Moser and George Bagley . You two will definately give them a run for their money in Italy.
psst Jay, not to brag but it was a 33.57 on lane 6!
[quote=slotbutton]Did anyone arrange or see any press coverage on this event?/QUOTE]
There was a nearly full page article in Saturday's Atlanta Journal/Constitution with some pictures. AJC is available on-line with registration, but no fee. But I don't know if this particular article made the internet version.
The race was a great slot car event. I did not race in the event. I watched the race from about 2:30 pm until the end at about 8:45 pm or so. Congrats to all who participated and actually finished their 20 lap heats. The 457' track is so huge it is astounding to me that the racers kept their cars on the track as well as they did.
Congrats to the top 6 guys for being in the final. Just being in the final race was a MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENT.
Ninco and MRC, JD of JD Raceway, Ninco Bob, all racers, marshals, and other support persons ..... Thankyou!
Kurt and George will represent the U.S. very well. Congratulations to both of you, for winning first and second place.
We need to keep this thing going.
Bob gave hints that this will travel around the US and it might come to a city near you ONLY IF the bosses at MRC get a favorable response to this race.
So all of you that raced in any regional, national levels, or even expressed interest in racing in this event, email Ninco Bob at bob@modelrectifier.com and let MRC know how much you enjoyed this event and would like to see a event like this continue in the future.
Help grow this great hobby we love so much.
Thanks goes out to all the racers that traveled from all across the US and Canada to support MRC / Ninco's first effort with a National race. I enjoyed putting a face with all the screen names I talk with through this crazy computer.

I think the only non-car related problem was Kerrys controller issue which knocked him out of the finals.
NOT all the cars were impounded the whole race... I was allowed to put a Canadian flag in support of Kerry on my car for the last heat. Guess I needed a bigger flag.
Well that was the first big event I've ever been to and it was absolutely fantastic.
Lots of talk before the event on the rules and format and such but when all was said and done it came off great.
Congrats to Kurt and George. Anyone who saw Kurt race on Sunday saw him show everyone how it was done. He was the class of the field all weekend.
While I wasn't thrilled with my performance, I couldn't have asked for a better weekend. Camraderie, new friends (I hope), and great racing.
As all before have said, thanks go to Ninco Bob for pulling it together and JD and his folks for providing a first class venue and a warm welcome for those who travelled far.
I know those from Houston who didn't join Ken and I on the trip missed out on a great time.
I can't wait for next year's event.
Frank M.
Wow! What a fantastic event. A big thanks to all who helped put this on, JD and his crew had the track working to perfection. Mike and his corner marshal crew were simply amazing (George's son Jake was as impressive in his marshalling skills as Kurt and George were with their driving, I think some racers gained time by going off at his corner!). The timing and scoring results were posted almost immediately after each heat so we always knew where we stood. The sportsmanship and comaradarie of all the competitors was a joy to experience. And of course, a big thanks to MRC & NINCO and NINCO Bob for making this happen. Way to go, Bob! Let's hope they make this a yearly event.
Also thanks to Alan for sending Kerry and Ken to the race and to stay with me. We had a great time even when we weren't racing! Riding with Kerry was an experience to remember...I can only imagine what it must have looked like to Kurt, who was following us! Hope you guys got to your flight on time.
I'd also like to say that we couldn't have chosen two better representatives for our little corner of the sport if we had hand picked them. Both Kurt and George are not only really fast on the track, but they're also great guys to know. Both are the epitome of grace under pressure and first-class sportsmen, too. I hope you all have the good fortune to race with them and get to know them at some time. I know the world opinion of American racers will increase a lot with them representing us.
I want to give a shout out to Jay Hodges who although he's not an area "native" stepped in and provided local information for out of town racers and was the "host" for the Saturday meet and drink event.
this is just super stuff! Congrats guys! I can't wait to see the results of the "world's" I only hope there will be some photos taken there too....I've added this to my blog too...
To borrow Jay's self description .... I too was just an "entrant" on Sunday and had the time of my life! I can't imagine this event going any smoother than it did on Sunday. The track marshal's were incredible! I am one of the locals at JD’s and when he said there would be 14 marshals at Sunday’s event I couldn’t believe it. This track is huge and I imagined trying to look past 14 people to see the track. I should have known that the marshalling, like everything else, had been well thought out and went off without a hitch! My hat goes off to Mike and his crew for doing such an outstanding job with the marshalling duties (from 10AM until after 8PM)!
I was glad to see Jim comment on what great guys both Kurt and George are. On top of being fast as lightening, these two are a couple of the nicest, most humble guys I have met. I’m sure they will do us proud in Italy both as racers and as US liaisons.
Hey Kurt, will “Kurt’s box of crap” get a new name when it goes to Italy?
Thanks so much to JD, Bob, MG and all the racers for making this such a memorable experience. I am happy to say I participated and can’t wait to see how the World Cup goes!
You're absolutely right, Mic. Attaboy, Jay! Thanks too, for picking up my contoller, it made a huge difference.

Thanks for the use of your controller when mine, er, malfunctioned... too bad the police were out looking for it as I just grabbed the first one I saw to get back in the race!
My driving of the rental car should have drawn more attention from law enforcement, but a rally driver is only as good as his navigator...
Yes Jim, we made the plane: after grabbing lunch, we were the last ones to board...
Kerry
PS I am glad my "Cat in the Hat" style socks were able to relieve some tension on Sunday, although they must have been cutting off some circulation to my finger and my head...

Thank you Jay!
Absolutely! I don't know how many of you racers got a chance to talk with Jay, but he's one of the nicest and funniest guys you'd want to meet. My experience with the Lake Lanier club guys in Atlanta has really been wonderful. Between Jay, Jim (Zoom Beedo) and George, I've really felt at home in Atlanta -- except that I still can't find my way out of a paper bag when I'm driving around that place. I think next time we'll use flare guns. Or if this computer thing ever catches on, maybe I'll print maps...

I can tell you exactly what it looked like -- digital!!!
Alan, thanks for sending these guys, they added a lot to the whole weekend. Did you know Kerry had this whole "Where's Waldo" thing planned? I don't know if it's appeared in other threads yet or not, but in case it hasn't, I wanted to point out that Kerry is definitely fast. The final standings didn't show it thanks to the controller problem, but it was clear watching him drive. I did learn some new Canadian curse words when his controller went bad, though. Shoot, the guy's Canadian -- I could have sworn he was yelling "puck!" I was looking for a face-off in the corner...
I had a lot of respect for the HSARC guys after driving their cars in RAA 2005, and that respect was well-placed. Frank, I really enjoyed racing with you and Ken -- you did Houston proud.

I don't know -- what's 'crap' in Italian? Maybe I can call it "Kurt's Box o' Fiat"
OK I am trying something new as far as the Heat Race results are concerned. I have entered them as a Google Spreadsheet. The public can view and leave comments about this spreadsheet. It has two tabs; the first tab is sorted by Group/Heat number and the second tab is sorted by overall time (fastest at the top).
If you do not have a Google Account (Free) you may have to sign up for one to view it.
There is some information missing- if you know any of the missing information please PM me with it and I will update it. (Thank you Kurt for the updates that you sent to me)
