Qualifying

Ryan Hendrickson took the initial pole with 75 laps. Just like the previous month’s Spring Is In 125, his pole mark stood until the final round of qualifying when Gary Weber snatched it away with 76. It was Weber’s first ever SCCOTTT Major pole position. It also made him third consecutive first time pole winner in SCCOTTT Majors dating back to April. Kevin Hendrickson grabbed third spot, followed by Dave Van Duzer, George Mest and Warren Lux, who made the cut despite struggling with his tires. The rest of the field moved into the Last Chance Qualifier.

Last Chance Qualifier

Scott Walker was the top qualifier of the LCQ runners and was the first to finish his run. That put him at the top of the charts with 66 laps despite guidepin troubles which cost him dearly mid-race. It was still enough to remain in the top spot. Ernie Langford narrowly topped Matt Metcalf by 16 track sections to get the final transfer spot. Dave Hendrickson and Mike Wulff filled out the LCQ running order.

Semi Final Round

Semi #1

The first semi featured Weber, Kevin Hendrickson, Mest and Walker. Hendrickson jumped out to the early lead, but when he went off Weber took over. From there he held on to win. Hendrickson wound up in second. He was consistently faster than Weber, but too many mistakes prevented him from taking advantage of his speed. Mest pulled a fine 68 laps to take third. Walker struggled to 63 laps.

2| 73 – Kevin Hendrickson
3| 68 – George Mest
4| 63 – Scott Walker

Semi #2

Semi #2 had Ryan Hendrickson, Van Duzer, Lux and Langford. Ryan took off at the start and pulled away while Lux and Van Duzer battled over second. Lux suffered a gear failure near the end of the second segment, which dropped him to fourth briefly. He replaced his gear in between segments and got back into the race. He managed to pass Langford back but could not quite get to Van Duzer. It was all for naught, however as neither driver’s 67 lap total would be enough to transfer into the final.

4| 65 – Ernie Langford

JOE JET 125 FINAL

The final would consist of five-minute segments and feature Gary Weber, Ryan and Kevin Hendrickson and Mest. Weber had lane choice, but Ryan had looked stronger in the semis. Kevin had gone with a tire change after the semis to try to improve his car’s drivability. Mest was happy to be in a SS T-Jet final for the first time since the Turkey 250 in November.

Ryan took the lead at the start and led the first lap with Weber close behind. On the second lap Weber took the lead away and the two fought tooth and nail for the next five laps. When Weber made a mistake Ryan took the lead back and began to pull away. He led by one lap at the end of segment 1. Ryan added two more laps to his lead in segment 2, but he sealed the race with his drive in segment 3. During that segment he held onto his three lap lead over Weber despite being in the gutter while Weber was in the middle. At the finish Ryan held on for his second consecutive Majors victory while Weber notched his third consecutive 2nd place finish. Kevin showed tremendous speed, but struggled at times and finished a distant third. Mest came home with a 4th place finish.
