Interesting JJJ.....

I never thought of using the V2 half struts on a different brand of slot car. What a novel idea.

Is the front wheelbase about the same w/ the half struts?

Anyway, great work on the conversion and proving once again that modifying other brands of cars to SCX-D isn't really all that hard.

Thanks Dave. If your question refers to the wheelbase across the front, then yes, there was a slight difference, but less than 1mm. This car design has the front wheels tucked inside the quarter panel, so the difference is not noticeable. Wheelbase front to back is exactly the same as the SCX stub fit exactly into the plastic groove that held the original bushing.

JJJ - Great work! I might have to rethink this whole-conversions-are-too-hard thing. You made it look very easy.

Thanks Danni, it wasn't that difficult at all, no more than a coupla hours work. Here's another idea I just saw that might make this process even easier. It is not my idea, the originator's name is Sven, he direct soldered wires from the guide to the chip, eliminating the hassles of trying to either go over/under the front axle, or having to remove the full axle for stubs! Never again! Wish I'd seen this before I started my Fly porsche conversion

Will the stub axle idea work on most newer Carrera cars?

Hi Chris, the Superbird is the only Carrera car I have, maybe some others here would know? But using the idea above, with hardwiring the guide, you would not have to remove the axle anymore. This is how I'm gonna do all future conversions.

I just wonder because my son wants a police car and the Carrera charger looks like a nice one. I'm not sure which would be the better way to go until I get the car in my hands.

I like that police car too. I would get the car and see, shouldn't be too hard. Good luck with it. Post any other questions you have when you get it.
