Default Targa Newfoundland - revised

I built the original almost two years ago, but I never could get going on the landscaping. On a
recent trip to Vancouver BC, I ran on Luf’s Targa Burnaby and it was now perfectly clear to me. I had to revise the track to to introduce ELEVATION CHANGES.

So, I plowed ahead this week. I’ve built in a hill, two feet higher over the lowest point. What a difference going in both directions. You have to be much more subtle with the throttle. I like anti-clockwise the best.

It’s the first wood track in our informal group to have dramatic elevation change so this coming Monday's get-together should be interesting.

It’s pretty much a condensed version of Archer Raceway’s upstairs Targa (RIP), my favorite of Luf’s creations.

Thanks again to our wood guru.

Dan

You did a great job on the revision. Love the lines of it...definitely has a big Luf vibe to it.

I know this is an old thread.
Dan, is the track in this thread the one in your album titled SPR 2013- Targa Burnaby track?
Either way could I ask the approximate length and width of that track. Hoping I can fit something like that in a 12.5x13 ft space.
Thanks, Rich

Oh, just noticed this posting.

The track in this thread fits on a 8' x 12' table.

The one used in the Sprite Proxy is Luf's Targa Burnaby.

I believe the average running length is around 80 - 90 feet and you would be able to fit a similar configuration in your available area. It's just a terrific track to run with the elevation changes and new wide sweeping back corner. I'll take more exact measurements before this Friday's races at Luf's.

He's contemplating some major revisions so stay tuned!

Dan

That looks excellent Dan! I think you have used the space extraordinarily well.
I ran Luf's second last Targa (before the hill climb went in) and the big drop is a lot more fun than you can imagine.
You have lots of room to do some great scenery too. Are those 1:32 cars in the bottom right corner of the table?

Yes, those are 1/32 slot cars off their tires so the urethanes don't get a flat spot.

The Newfoundland coastal theme lends itself to lots of rock scenery and after admiring Luf's new hillclimb and its rockface, I've got some plastering with Woodland Scenics molds in mind.

My track is a condensed version of Luf's upstairs Targa at his old Archer Raceway. It's still my favorite of all his tracks.

Hmmm, I wonder if that Woodland Scenery will be in place in time for a certain proxy race next year

(Check out my Massachusetts neighbor Dave Frary's books and videos that specialise in New England scenery (for model railroads but it's all good) if you need any tips or techniques.)

JT

Great pic of Prettyete's car too!
