Well done all the Shoreliners! Have a great Christmas!
Argh! How infuriating that my sole entry is so far off the pace. It does have Luff tyres which are derigour in our part of the world. So what has happened? I see Super Slab is also concerned. (He is b..g.. as he gets a stockish scaley around Luffs faster than my Slotits. Hard to say at this distance. Before setting out to India the car had a few laps at the Targa/SPA/Ring and was comfortably faster than last years entry(like a second). There was some chatter at the rear if really pushing the car in a long sweeping corner. The consenus among us that night was leave well alone. This car should do alright. The motor has no brakes but plenty of grunt for a 20k Scaley. So back to the drawing board!(and or wait for different tracks).
Hhmm, not quite sure what to make of this phrase Daniel: I am not 100% sure what word you were hiding there so I am not sure if I should feel complimented or insulted...
But I will take the comments on my Scaley as a compliment: thank you!
And a merry Christmas to you in the UK. Or India. Or where exactly are you at the moment? Certainly not Bowen! And it appears we will not see you at Perry's Boxing Week Bash? Oh well, hoopefully back in the new year!
He does spend a lot of time in transit, doesn't he? I mean, Napoleon said the British were a nation of Shopkeepers, but ours doesn't seem to find much time to mind the store the way he's always gadding about.
Meanwhile, I noticed that my Prototype and his GTU car qualified within hundredths of a second of each other. This does not auger well for the future. Now I know you will be trying to find a pun that will fit the previous ...

Methinks he is yearning for the Colonial days of yore: he DID go to India after all... A pukka Bowen sahib is our Daniel.

Tyres have been postulated as a possible reason for poor performance but I would still appreciate some comment from the drivers? I find it hard to think that tyres only could account for my GT40's extremely poor showing: some other issue or track incompatibility? Just a bad car?

I promise I won't bore you with any attempted puns...
Glad to see there are others who are concerned with their performance (or lack of). My car lapped my track at an almost record pace so it will be interesting to see how well it does on other tracks now that I know it doesn't like Smokeo's.

I've spent some time looking at the amount of 'meat' left on the entries tyres. Probably half of the top ten qualifiers look as if their tyres are buffed down to optimum sprint diameter, so I am not too concerned yet about my 11th placing, as I only took off the barest minimum of tread required to stop it thumping much. If a rim and tyre seperate there is some leeway for repair.
I ran in the last NZProxy for CanAm cars with a similar setup to my current P car, and wore down my SuperGrips enough in 7 races on smooth epoxy and latex tracks to reduce clearance under my car from @ 1.2mm to less than 0.9mm (@.6mm of tyre).
Considering that we have 10 races to run on these tyres, and coupled with the fact that the tyres must be all but destroyed to qualify for a change out, and then at the cost of a missed race, I think tyre strategy will occupy many racers attention.
To cede @ 10% of possible race laps to break even with the tyre change penalty will require a handy lead come pit time, just like real racing.
So sit back, breathe deep, and keep a weather eye on the opposition, and be prepared to bolt into pitlane under the yellow...

Rest assured All very complimentary.
I would like to make a quick plug for groceries and christmas trees, We have just a few left and for you sir they will be half price, I am just giving them away, what more can I say it's a steal of a bargain....
If kiddies we look for a present in the square window we find the g is unwrapped for good and if we now look in the round window we will see a word that rhymes with Ruddy, but this being a kids friendly channel can't be repeated here.
I am sorry to miss Perry's this year as it is always a highlight the Vancouver slot year. Am in the UK enjoying christmas here, snow on the ground, good food and family to really tee one off!
best wishes
see you in the new year.

ps intend to create a post of my India trip here. We drove Ambassadors for ten days in southern India for charity and fun. WWW.karma Enduro has the details.
The field of 64 cars has officially been set. Qualifying at Valley Brook has been completed and the final five spots have been determined. We have a complete field with a minumum 18 cars in each class. Congratulations to everyone that has made this large field. With that being said we unfortunately have three entries that did not make the elite 64. These entries (all GTU cars) will compete seperately in the CanAm Consi Series to become that series first champion. Again all the CanAm cars are at Waynes World ready for the start of round one for 2011. Thanks to Mike for his efforts to give everyone the same opportunity to qualify on a simularly prepared surface at Valley Brook. Mike's attention to detail ensured that every entry had the same opportunity to make the 64 car field. Stay tuned in for the qualifying extravaganza at Waynes World and again thanks to all of you for entering.

I don't know if it means anything at all, but the Q times for my cars on Mike's track (do I recall 49 feet lap length?) are nearly the same for my cars as on my home track (61 feet). My track is longer in the straights, set to a higher voltage, and doesn't have an ess-bend like VB. But it does offer less grip.
OK, so the 'other 3' will be in a consi? May I suggest that we get our cars back or run with everyone else? No sour grapes here, I just see no reason to have a separate group of races for three cars.
Reminds me of the non-negotiable, never to be exercised bragging rights I picked up by winning the three-car RAA Open class a few years ago. First in class but mid-packish overall. All hail the champeen.
It does seem a good idea to squeeze the three Consi runners into the main race. It's sort of difficult to imagine three cars traveling the nation in a separate box, and racing at separate race tracks from the main event. Maybe we could slap a big C on the cars, and let them duke it out for Consi prizes as they race on the same tracks, at the same time as the others.
